What does ChatGPT Plus include?
The Plus card on chatgpt.com/pricing, read Nov 6, 2026, lists everything in Go plus: advanced reasoning models with GPT-6, expanded messages and uploads, more complex and accurate image creation, expanded deep research, expanded memory and context, "Projects, scheduled tasks, and custom GPTs", expanded Codex usage, ChatGPT Work on desktop, web and mobile, and early access to new features. Its footnote: "Limits apply."
What that means in practice:
- Models in Chat. Plus uses GPT-6 Sol for Instant, Medium and High; Extra High and the Pro option are not included (GPT-6 and other models in ChatGPT). GPT-5.6 Sol stays selectable, and legacy models are available (chatgpt.com/pricing). See ChatGPT Models.
- ChatGPT Work and Codex. Plus gets Codex on the web, the CLI, the IDE extension and iOS, cloud integrations such as automatic code review and Slack, and extra usage through credits (learn.chatgpt.com). It includes limited GPT-6 Astra in Work and Codex (ChatGPT Work and Codex).
- Images. Images with thinking (image creation with the Thinking and Pro models) is on Plus, Pro and Business (Images in ChatGPT).
- Tools. Deep Research at the expanded level, ChatGPT Sites (no fixed limit on how many since Oct 15, 2026), interactive tables and charts, developer mode, and the Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Sheets extensions (chatgpt.com/pricing).
- Organization. Projects with 25 files each, 5 active scheduled tasks that can repeat hourly, and custom instructions up to 5,000 characters (Projects, Tasks, release notes).
ChatGPT Plus limits
OpenAI publishes no message counts for GPT-6 Sol in Chat on Plus; its help article says only that "Plus subscriptions may include usage limits such as message caps, especially during high demand" (What is ChatGPT Plus?). The numbers it does publish are for Work and Codex, as estimates of local messages per five-hour period (learn.chatgpt.com, as of Nov 6, 2026):
| Model in Work and Codex | Local messages per 5 hours (Plus) |
|---|---|
| GPT-6 Astra | 5 to 45 |
| GPT-6.1 Sol | 15 to 160 |
| GPT-6.1 Terra | 35 to 285 |
| GPT-6 Sol | 15 to 150 |
| GPT-6 Luna | 350 to 3,000 |
Source: learn.chatgpt.com pricing, read Nov 6, 2026. Weekly limits may also apply, and cloud tasks use more of the allowance than local messages.
Other published Plus limits: 3 hours a day of voice with GPT-Live-1.1, up to 80 files every 3 hours, and 20 GB of Library storage. When you hit a limit you can wait for the reset or buy credits. ChatGPT Usage Limits has every plan's numbers.
What Plus does not include
Plus lacks what ChatGPT Pro adds (chatgpt.com/pricing):
- The Pro reasoning option in Chat (GPT-6 Pro, powered by GPT-6 Astra) and GPT-5.6 Sol Pro.
- The Extra High thinking level.
- Dots, the always-on agents, and ChatGPT Space.
- Monthly API credits: Plus is not eligible (API credits benefit).
- Freedom from the five-hour limit in Work and Codex, and Ultrafast mode (Pro 500 only).
- Unlimited voice and image creation.
New Custom GPTs cannot be created on Plus, even though the pricing card still lists them: GPT creation has ended on all personal accounts, and existing GPTs retire on Dec 11, 2026 (Free Tier FAQ, Custom GPT retirement).
How to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus
- Sign in at chatgpt.com, or open the ChatGPT app.
- Go to Settings > My Plan, or open chatgpt.com/pricing.
- Choose Plus and pay. On chatgpt.com you can pay by card, and in some countries with local methods such as UPI in India, Pix in Brazil or GoPay in Indonesia (multicurrency billing). In the iPhone or Android app the subscription is billed through Apple or Google Play.
OpenAI says you can "upgrade, switch, or cancel your plan from Settings > My Plan or from the Pricing page" (release notes, Apr 9, 2026). Where you pay matters later: you cancel and ask for refunds in the same place.
How to cancel ChatGPT Plus
Cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date, on the platform where you bought it (Canceling your ChatGPT subscription):
- chatgpt.com: Settings > Billing > Cancel plan > Cancel.
- iPhone or iPad: Settings > your name > Subscriptions > ChatGPT > Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Google Play > Subscriptions > ChatGPT > Cancel subscription.
You keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel. How to Cancel ChatGPT Plus covers every case.
Refunds
"Payments are generally non-refundable," but OpenAI may give a discretionary refund on an unused individual subscription if you ask within seven days of the charge (refund help). In the EU, the UK and Turkey you can get a prorated refund if you cancel within 14 days of purchase; Korea and Brazil have their own rules. App Store purchases are refunded by Apple.
Is ChatGPT Plus worth it?
For most people who use ChatGPT every day for work or study, yes: $20 buys the step from the Luna models to GPT-6 Sol with reasoning, which matters for code, math and analysis, plus enough Codex for side projects and no ads. Plus is not worth it if you only chat now and then, since text chats are unlimited on Free, or if you need more uploads and voice but not better reasoning, where ChatGPT Go at $8 does the job. If you run out of Codex or Work every day, look at Pro 100 instead: ChatGPT Plus vs Pro and ChatGPT Go vs Plus go through the trade.
What testers found
In a Jun 7, 2026 video, Paul Lipsky subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro and Google AI Pro and compared their limits. He said Plus then gave 160 messages every three hours with OpenAI's strongest model, a window that resets more often than Claude's five hours, that Codex had its own allowance so running it out still left ChatGPT usable, and that ChatGPT was the plan whose limit he hit least. OpenAI's Plus pages published no Chat message count on Nov 6, 2026, so his number describes the plan when he made the video.
The host of Parker Prompts, testing the same three $20 plans in an Aug 12, 2026 video, gave ChatGPT the image round by a small margin over Gemini: its strength was getting text inside an image right and changing one detail from a comment instead of starting over. Claude could not make images at all.
