How to Cancel ChatGPT Plus

To cancel ChatGPT Plus bought on chatgpt.com, go to Settings > Billing and select Cancel under Cancel plan; if you subscribed in the iPhone app cancel through Apple, and on Android through Google Play. You keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for, and refunds are limited.

To cancel ChatGPT Plus, cancel where you bought it: on chatgpt.com go to Settings > Billing > Cancel plan > Cancel; on an iPhone, cancel in Apple's Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > ChatGPT; on Android, cancel in the Google Play Store's Subscriptions (OpenAI Help Center). Cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date. Your paid features stay until the end of the period you already paid for, and canceling does not refund earlier charges by itself. The same steps cancel ChatGPT Go and ChatGPT Pro.

You must cancel on the platform that bills you. Your receipt says which: a chatgpt.com purchase does not appear in Apple's or Google's subscription lists, and an App Store purchase cannot be canceled from chatgpt.com (OpenAI Help Center). If you have more than one Apple or Google account, check each.

Cancel on the web (chatgpt.com)

Sign in to ChatGPT at chatgpt.com with the account that pays.
Open the account menu and select Settings.
Select Billing.
Under Cancel plan, select Cancel, and confirm.

If the billing controls are missing, OpenAI suggests signing in to the same account in a different browser (OpenAI Help Center). You can also upgrade, switch or cancel from Settings > My Plan or the pricing page.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad (Apple)

Open the iPhone's Settings app and tap your name.
Tap Subscriptions, then ChatGPT.
Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

If there is no Cancel button but an expiration date shows, the subscription is already canceled (OpenAI Help Center).

Cancel on Android (Google Play)

Open the Play Store app and go to Subscriptions.
Select ChatGPT, then Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts.

On a computer, open your Google Play subscriptions page with the Google account that paid, select Manage next to ChatGPT, then Cancel subscription and Continue (OpenAI Help Center).

Cancel a Business workspace

Owners go to Workspace settings > Billing > Manage plan > Cancel subscription; other members must ask the workspace owner. Enterprise and Edu are handled through their contracts (OpenAI Help Center). Business seats are generally non-refundable for the committed period. See ChatGPT Business.

Things that do not cancel

Uninstalling the app. "Uninstalling the ChatGPT app does not cancel your subscription" (OpenAI Help Center).
Deleting your account, for Apple subscriptions. Deleting a ChatGPT account cancels a subscription billed by chatgpt.com, but not one billed by Apple; check Google Play too (OpenAI Help Center).

Can you get a refund?

OpenAI's rule is that "Payments are generally non-refundable", with these exceptions, as of Nov 6, 2026:

Approved refunds are processed within 5 to 7 business days on the web and 10 on Google Play. Credits you bought separately are "non-refundable unless required by law", and on Pro an approved full refund removes the unused API credits tied to that charge.

What happens after you cancel

You keep Plus until the end of the current billing period, and nothing renews after that. OpenAI's cancellation article does not spell out what happens next, either which plan the account moves to or what becomes of your chats. No OpenAI page read for this guide says canceling deletes chats, and the deletion article treats deleting chats and deleting the account as separate steps.
