ChatGPT Sites

ChatGPT Sites builds and hosts a working website from a chat in ChatGPT Work or Codex, with its own address, a database of up to 10 GB and custom domains; it is on Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise but not Free or Go, and building counts toward Codex usage.

To make a website with ChatGPT, open Work on chatgpt.com (or Work or Codex in the desktop app), describe the site with the word "website" or "@Sites" in the message, check the preview, and deploy it to get an address (OpenAI Help Center, read Nov 6, 2026). That is ChatGPT Sites, in public beta since Jul 9, 2026. It is on ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Pro, ChatGPT Business and ChatGPT Enterprise, but "not available on Free or Go" (OpenAI Help Center). Building a Site uses the plan's Codex allowance, and hosting is included for Plus and Pro, as of Nov 6, 2026.

How do you make a website with ChatGPT?

  1. On the web, select Work. In the desktop app, select ChatGPT, then Work, or select Codex (OpenAI Help Center).
  2. Describe the site in a message that includes "website" or mentions @Sites, for example "Use @Sites to build a booking page for my bike repair shop".
  3. Look at the preview and ask for changes until it is right.
  4. Deploy it to get an address. The Site starts private.
  5. Share it (below), or connect a domain.

Later edits happen in the chat where the Site was made, from the Sites list in the sidebar (the edit icon), or with Edit site on the published page in a desktop browser. Since Sep 29, 2026, a Site can also run scheduled Automations.

What can a Site do?

A Site is a working web app, not only a page: each has a database of up to 10 GB, file storage with no fixed limit per Site, and can be linked to cloud schedules the owner also owns (OpenAI Help Center). Each visitor uses their own connected apps and permissions. A Site can host an MCP server that gives tools to a plugin, which is how a plugin can carry "apps hosted on ChatGPT Sites" (OpenAI Help Center). Public profiles can showcase up to 12 Sites.

Sharing and addresses

Sharing settings run from narrow to wide (OpenAI Help Center):

  • the owner and workspace admins;
  • chosen users or groups, and named outside viewers, who get view-only access and must sign in with the invited account (outside sharing arrived Sep 3, 2026);
  • anyone in the workspace, where supported;
  • anyone on the internet, only where public publishing is allowed.

Public publishing was not offered in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK at launch (release notes, Jul 9, 2026), and Enterprise workspaces have it off until an admin turns it on. The default address carries the Site's name and, on personal accounts, a random identifier; a public profile or a new username may put the username in it. A URL can be changed since Aug 20, 2026, and the old one redirects.

A custom domain needs a domain you already own: open the Site's settings, Add domain, add the DNS records Sites gives (including a verification TXT record), then refresh the status. Sites does not sell domains (OpenAI Help Center).

Limits and cost

Building or editing counts toward the plan's Codex usage, and hosting (traffic and storage) is tracked separately; hosting is "currently included" with Plus and Pro, and waived for Enterprise for now (OpenAI Help Center). Plus and Pro had a fixed number of Sites at first; since Oct 15, 2026 there is "no fixed limit", though shared usage and storage limits can still block a new one. For Codex allowances, see Codex Pricing and Limits.

Two cautions from OpenAI: restoring an earlier version brings back the code only, not the database or files, and there is no built-in backup of records and files together (OpenAI Help Center).

What Sites may not hold

Sites must not store protected health information or card numbers (payments go through a third-party processor), target children under 13, or host malware, phishing or impersonation (OpenAI Help Center). On Free, Go, Plus and Pro, the chats and Site information may be used for training while "Improve the model for everyone" is on; Business and Enterprise content is not used by default (Privacy and Data Controls).

Deleting a Site

Restrict it in Share settings, or choose Delete site, type the Site's slug and select Permanently delete. Deleted Sites cannot be restored (OpenAI Help Center).
