ChatGPT Go vs Plus
ChatGPT Go costs $8 a month and Plus $20 in the US as of Nov 6, 2026; Go raises Free's limits but keeps the Luna models and ads, while Plus adds GPT-6 Sol reasoning, full ChatGPT Work and Codex, and no ads.
ChatGPT Go costs $8 a month and ChatGPT Plus $20 a month in the US as of Nov 6, 2026, and the difference is the model more than the limits. Go gives you more of what Free has (uploads, images, voice, memory) on the same Luna models, with ads. Plus moves you to GPT-6 Sol with Medium and High thinking in Chat, opens ChatGPT Work and Codex on every device with the full set of Work and Codex models, and has no ads. If ChatGPT's answers are already good enough and you only run out of tools, Go is the cheaper fix; if you want better answers to hard questions or real coding help, pay for Plus.

The model: Luna against Sol
This is the difference you notice in every answer. Go has no model picker: it uses the same Luna model as Free, and its Think button uses GPT-5.6 Luna; "ChatGPT Go does not include GPT-5.6 Sol" (What is ChatGPT Go?). Plus uses GPT-6 Sol for Instant, Medium and High (models article). OpenAI calls Luna its most cost-efficient line and Sol its flagship (GPT-5.6); see GPT-6 Luna and ChatGPT Models.
OpenAI's pages disagree on which Luna Go uses in Chat: the pricing page and the Oct 7, 2026 release note say GPT-6 Luna, the help articles updated in November 2026 say GPT-5.6 Luna.
Limits: where Go and Plus are close
On limits, Go and Plus are nearer than their prices suggest. They share the same context windows (54K tokens Instant, 256K with reasoning), the same 25 files per project, and the same 3 hours a day of voice, though Plus gets the full GPT-Live-1.1 model and Go the lighter GPT-Live-1.1 Quip (ChatGPT Voice). Plus has more storage (20 GB against 4 GB) and two more scheduled tasks. OpenAI publishes no message, upload or image counts for either plan, only "More" for Go and "Expanded" for Plus on chatgpt.com/pricing.
The Go help article says Go's voice has "the same usage limits as the Free tier", which conflicts with the voice article's 3 hours; both are OpenAI pages read on Nov 6, 2026.
Work and Codex: where Plus pulls ahead
Go has limited ChatGPT Work and Codex in the desktop app only, with GPT-6 Luna at Standard speed (learn.chatgpt.com). Plus has Work on web and mobile too, Codex on the web, CLI, IDE extension and iOS, Codex Cloud, automatic code review, Slack, and the Work and Codex models GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6.1 Terra, GPT-6 Sol and limited GPT-6 Astra. OpenAI estimates Plus at 15 to 160 GPT-6.1 Sol local messages per five hours. Plus can also buy credits when it runs out; on Go, buying credits is open only to "a limited group" (Using credits).
Ads
Go may show ads, and unlike Free it has no ad-free option (Ads in ChatGPT). Plus never shows ads. If ads are the main thing you want gone, Go does not do it; Plus is the cheapest plan without them. See Ads in ChatGPT.
Verdict by kind of user
| User | Better plan | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Chats a lot, hits upload or image limits | Go | Raises the tool limits for $8 |
| Long documents, under 54K tokens | Either | Both have a 54K token Instant window |
| Hard questions, math, analysis | Plus | GPT-6 Sol with Medium and High thinking; Go has Luna |
| Coding | Plus | Codex on CLI, IDE and web, Codex Cloud and code review |
| Agents and long tasks | Plus | ChatGPT Work on every device with the Sol models |
| Dislikes ads | Plus | Go may show ads and cannot turn them off |
| Students and tight budgets, especially in India | Go | ₹399 a month in India, with UPI |
| Image work | Plus | Images with thinking; Go has more images than Free, but not that |
Switching between Go and Plus
You can upgrade, switch or cancel from Settings > My Plan or the pricing page (release notes, Apr 9, 2026). Moving from Plus to Go brings no refund: Plus runs to the end of the cycle, then Go starts (What is ChatGPT Go?). Both are billed monthly, so trying one for a month costs only that month.
