Codex vs Antigravity
OpenAI Codex and Google Antigravity are both agentic coding tools with an app, an IDE side and a command line; as of Nov 6, 2026 Antigravity is free for individuals and its Google AI Pro tier runs Gemini 4 Argon and Claude Opus 5.5, while Codex runs OpenAI's GPT-6 models and adds cloud tasks and GitHub reviews; Gemini CLI moved individual users to the Antigravity CLI on Jun 18, 2026.
Google Antigravity costs $0 for individuals, with unlimited Tab completions and basic weekly limits, while Codex runs on ChatGPT Free with the small GPT-6 Luna model and needs ChatGPT Plus ($20 a month) for its stronger models, cloud tasks and code review. Antigravity is Google's agentic coding app, IDE and command line, and since Jun 18, 2026 it is also where individual Gemini CLI users went: Gemini CLI stopped serving free, Google AI Pro and Ultra accounts that day. The surprise in a fair comparison is that Antigravity's paid tiers include Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5, the Arena WebDev leader, beside Google's own Gemini 4 Argon. Codex's strengths are OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol, published per-plan allowances, cloud tasks and GitHub reviews. Learn more: https://ai.vi.ki/google-antigravity.

Which has the better models?
On the independent leaderboards it depends on which Antigravity model is picked. Antigravity's paid tiers include Claude Opus 5.5 Thinking, first on Arena WebDev (Oct 27, 2026) at 1810 against GPT-6 Astra's 1773 and GPT-6.1 Sol's 1751. Google's own Gemini 4 Argon is not among the leaders on Arena's agent ranking, where it is eighth (10.53%) behind GPT-6 Astra (fourth, 14.70%) and GPT-6.1 Sol (sixth, 12.51%). On the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, GPT-6 Astra (max) scores 57 and Gemini 4 Argon (high) 50; a "Gemini 4 Carbon" tops that index at 60, but no Google page read on Nov 6, 2026 describes it, and it is not listed in Antigravity's models.
For general chat, Gemini 4 Argon leads: second on Arena Text at 1520, against 1476 for GPT-6 Astra. Google's own launch post gives no head-to-head with GPT or Claude models, citing only its own tests such as ERQA at 87%.
Verdict: Antigravity on paid tiers, because it offers Claude Opus 5.5; Codex over Antigravity's Gemini models for agent work. Note which models a plan gets: Gemini 4 Argon and the Claude models are not on Antigravity's free tier, and Claude needs a non-trial AI Pro.
Price and limits
Antigravity is free for individuals with "Basic weekly rate limits"; Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month gives "entry-level" agent limits and Ultra 5 or 20 times more, plus a flexible AI credit pool. Google gives no message numbers.
Codex lists Free at $0, Go at $8, Plus at $20, Pro at $100, $200 or $500, and estimates for Plus 5 to 45 GPT-6 Astra messages, 15 to 160 GPT-6.1 Sol messages or 350 to 3,000 GPT-6 Luna messages every five hours; Pro has no five-hour limit (Codex Pricing and Limits).
For API users, Gemini 4 Argon costs $2 / $10 per million tokens until Nov 30, 2026, then $4 / $20 from Dec 1; GPT-6.1 Sol costs $2 / $10 and GPT-6 Astra $10 / $50 (OpenAI API Pricing).
Gemini CLI and the Antigravity CLI
Searches for "Codex vs Gemini CLI" now land on a moved product. Gemini CLI's own README says there is "No free tier or Google AI plans" for it: free individual access and Google AI Pro and Ultra moved to the Antigravity CLI on Jun 18, 2026. Gemini CLI still serves Gemini Code Assist Standard and Enterprise, Code Assist for GitHub and older paid API keys, is Apache 2.0 licensed, and is "not optimized for Gemini 4+ models". The Codex CLI is open source too and installs with one command (How to Install Codex CLI). No source read for this page tests the Antigravity CLI against the Codex CLI.
Where each one runs
Codex runs in the ChatGPT Desktop App on macOS, Windows and Linux, the CLI, the Codex IDE Extension for VS Code, Cursor and Windsurf, Codex Cloud, the web and ChatGPT on iOS (OpenAI Codex docs), with GitHub, GitLab, Slack and Linear integrations and Codex Code Review. Antigravity is an app, an IDE and a CLI; the Antigravity pages read for this article do not describe cloud tasks, GitHub reviews or mobile use, so those are not compared.
Privacy
Personal ChatGPT plans share data for training by default, with an off switch, and Codex Business has no training on business data by default (Privacy and Data Controls). Google's data terms for Antigravity were not read for this page.
Which should you choose?
Choose Antigravity to code free with generous Tab completions, or for Claude Opus 5.5 and Gemini 4 Argon inside one Google AI Pro plan with storage and the Gemini app. Choose Codex for OpenAI's GPT-6 models, clear message allowances, cloud tasks that run while you sleep, and pull request reviews on GitHub, or if ChatGPT is already paid for. The chat assistants are compared on ChatGPT vs Gemini, and the other agents on Codex vs Claude Code and Codex vs Cursor. Learn more: https://ai.vi.ki/google-antigravity.
