ChatGPT works inside Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint and Word as a sidebar add-in that builds and edits files in place; it is on every plan including Free, with limited use on Free and Go, while Plus and Pro draw on the same agentic allowance as Codex.

To use ChatGPT in Excel, PowerPoint or Word, open the app, go to Home > Add-ins, search for "ChatGPT", add it, open it from the ribbon and sign in; for Google Sheets, install ChatGPT from the Google Workspace Marketplace and open it from the Extensions menu (OpenAI Help Center, read Nov 6, 2026). The add-in sits in a sidebar and builds, edits and explains the open file. All four are on every plan, Free included, as of Nov 6, 2026: Free and Go get limited use, and Plus and Pro share one allowance with Codex and ChatGPT Work. How do you install ChatGPT in Excel, PowerPoint or Word?

Open Excel, PowerPoint or Word (Excel works on the desktop or the web).
Go to Home > Add-ins and search for ChatGPT, or open the Microsoft Marketplace page.
Add it, open it from the ribbon, and sign in with your ChatGPT account (OpenAI Help Center).

Where the store is blocked, a Microsoft 365 admin can deploy the add-in's manifest from the Microsoft 365 admin center (Integrated apps > Deploy Add-in > Upload custom apps). The Word release note points to the same Marketplace listing (release notes, Sep 17, 2026).

How do you add ChatGPT to Google Sheets?

Install ChatGPT from the Google Workspace Marketplace.
In a sheet, open Extensions and choose ChatGPT.
Sign in (OpenAI Help Center).

In workspaces with role-based access, an admin enables it under Workspace settings > Permissions & roles, one setting for both Excel and Sheets.

What can it do?

Excel and Google Sheets. OpenAI calls it "a spreadsheet-native AI experience": it builds, updates and explains spreadsheets, including multi-tab workbooks with formulas (OpenAI Help Center). In the ChatGPT desktop app, Codex can also work on an open Excel workbook through the add-in, editing sheets, formulas, formatting and charts; that is Excel-only. PowerPoint. It drafts a deck from source material, adds or rewrites slides, answers questions about a deck's story and structure, and tailors it to an audience, keeping slides editable (OpenAI Help Center). It can use Skills (open with +, or @ in a prompt) and connected apps where the workspace allows. OpenAI warns that it may not follow a template exactly and that some chart, shape and layout editing is limited. Presentations made from scratch in ChatGPT itself are a separate feature, Slides in ChatGPT Space.

Word. Word joined on Sep 17, 2026 for all plans including Free. In Word, Free and Go use GPT-5.6 Luna and Plus and Pro default to GPT-5.6 Sol (OpenAI Help Center). The Word help article itself was not read for this page, so its feature list is not given here.

OpenAI publishes no message counts. Its credit guide puts a typical Excel task at 5 to 20 credits a message and PowerPoint at 10 to 50; larger files and more complex tasks use more. The pricing page marks the "Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Sheets extensions" Limited on Free and Go, Yes on Plus and Expanded on Pro (ChatGPT pricing, read Nov 6, 2026). Privacy

The add-ins process prompts, attachments and the relevant parts of the file. In Excel and Sheets, chats are kept apart from regular ChatGPT history, have no access to Memory, and some logs may be kept by OpenAI for 30 days for safety (OpenAI Help Center). Under Microsoft's Marketplace terms, Microsoft may be able to read the content of the files. Neither help article read says whether add-in content is used for training; the account's general setting is in Privacy and Data Controls.

Check the work

OpenAI's advice for all of them: outputs can be incomplete or wrong, so review changed cells, formulas, numbers and slides, and duplicate an important file first so you can go back (OpenAI Help Center). OpenAI also says ChatGPT is not a financial, legal or tax advisor.
