ChatGPT in Other Apps

ChatGPT also answers outside its own app: on WhatsApp and by phone at 1-800-CHATGPT (+1-800-242-8478), on Kakao in South Korea and Viber, in Apple CarPlay, Slack, Apple Messages on the Mac and the Office add-ins.

To use ChatGPT without its app, message or call 1-800-CHATGPT (+1-800-242-8478): it answers on WhatsApp with no account needed, and by voice call from the US and Canada with 30 free minutes a month, as of Nov 6, 2026. ChatGPT also runs on Kakao in South Korea, on Viber, in Apple CarPlay, in Slack, and through plugins and add-ins that bring it into Apple Messages, iCloud, Microsoft Office and Google Sheets. Each of these is a narrower ChatGPT than the full app: fewer tools, separate limits, and in some cases a conversation tied to a phone number rather than an account.

How do you use ChatGPT on WhatsApp?

Save +1-800-242-8478 as a contact and send it a message in WhatsApp. OpenAI calls it "the verified 1-800-CHATGPT contact", and you can start "without a ChatGPT account" (ChatGPT release notes, Jul 13, 2026). It takes text, images and voice notes and can create images; linking a ChatGPT account is optional and raises the limits. Whether it works for you depends on the country code of your WhatsApp number, and usage limits apply (1-800-ChatGPT help).

The conversation belongs to the phone number, not to a ChatGPT account, and OpenAI says it does not currently let users unlink a phone number from an account once linked. Calls and transcripts "may be stored and reviewed for a limited time" for safety and abuse prevention (1-800-ChatGPT help). Anything you would not want kept is better asked in a Temporary Chat in the app.

WhatsApp in Europe: gone, then back

On Jul 13, 2026 OpenAI announced that ChatGPT "is available again on WhatsApp" in the European Economic Area (ChatGPT release notes). The word "again" says it had been unavailable there, but neither that note nor the current help article says when it left or why, and no other OpenAI page read on Nov 6, 2026 does. This page leaves the cause out rather than guess. What matters today: WhatsApp access in the EEA is live, may roll out gradually by number, and needs no account.

Calling 1-800-CHATGPT

Dial 1-800-242-8478 from a US or Canadian number, or from one of the supported countries, and talk to ChatGPT by voice. Calls from the US and Canada get 30 free minutes a month, OpenAI "may adjust limits based on capacity", and standard carrier fees may apply (1-800-ChatGPT help). It is a plain voice line: no screen, no files, no memory of your account unless the number is linked. For the full voice experience use Voice Mode in the app.

This is a different number from OpenAI's support line, 1-888-GPT-0090, which is for help with your account (OpenAI Help Over Phone).

Kakao and Viber

The same Jul 13, 2026 note says ChatGPT "is also available on Kakao in South Korea and Viber in supported markets" (ChatGPT release notes). OpenAI's pages read on Nov 6, 2026 give no list of Viber's markets, no limits and no setup steps for either, so check inside each app.

ChatGPT in Apple CarPlay

ChatGPT works in Apple CarPlay on supported iPhones running iOS 26.4 or later, "globally on all ChatGPT plans" (Using ChatGPT in CarPlay). It arrived on Apr 2, 2026 (ChatGPT release notes).

  1. Connect the iPhone to a car that supports CarPlay.
  2. Open ChatGPT > New voice chat on the car's screen.
  3. Use the Projects tab or your pinned and recent chats to continue an earlier conversation.

To start talking as soon as the app opens, turn on Settings > Voice > Start automatically in CarPlay in the iPhone app. ChatGPT in CarPlay "cannot access maps, vehicle information, or live location" (Using ChatGPT in CarPlay), so it is a voice assistant for questions, not a navigation aid.

Apple: Siri, Messages, iCloud and Live Activities

Siri and Writing Tools. OpenAI and Apple announced at WWDC 2024 that Siri could hand a question to ChatGPT, after asking you first, and that ChatGPT would sit in Apple's Writing Tools, free and with no account needed; OpenAI said such requests are not stored and IP addresses are obscured, unless you connect your ChatGPT account (OpenAI and Apple announce partnership). No OpenAI page read on Nov 6, 2026 states how the integration works today or which model it uses, so treat those 2024 details as history and check Apple's settings on your device.

Apple Messages on the Mac. Since Aug 20, 2026 the Apple Messages plugin in the ChatGPT desktop app "can read and search iMessage, SMS, and RCS conversations" (ChatGPT release notes). It is a plugin you install, not something on by default.

iCloud Mail and Calendar. Plugins for both arrived on Oct 27, 2026, connected with an Apple app-specific password and "rolling out globally to all ChatGPT plans on web, desktop, and iOS" (Connected apps in ChatGPT).

Live Activities. Since Aug 31, 2026 a voice chat can show as an iPhone Live Activity (ChatGPT release notes).

ChatGPT in Slack

OpenAI released a ChatGPT app for Slack and a Slack connector on Oct 13, 2025, for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu; the Slack app needs a paid Slack workspace (ChatGPT release notes). Since Aug 25, 2026 a scheduled task can watch a Slack channel: add @ChatGPT to each channel it should monitor. Slack is also one of the Plugins that let ChatGPT read your workspace from inside the ChatGPT app.

Office, Google Sheets and the browser

ChatGPT has add-ins for Excel and Google Sheets (May 5, 2026), PowerPoint (generally available Jul 6, 2026) and Word (Sep 17, 2026), all including Free (ChatGPT release notes); see ChatGPT in Office. In Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi, the ChatGPT Browser Extension lets the desktop app see and act on your tabs.

Signing in to other apps with ChatGPT

Some apps now offer Sign in with ChatGPT, which hands them "only your name, email address, and profile picture"; the first partners were Airtable, GitLab, HubSpot, Notion, Supabase and Vercel (Sign in with ChatGPT). Go, Plus and Pro users can also let participating apps use their plan, with requests counted against the ChatGPT Work and Codex usage included in it; set a weekly cap per app at Settings > Usage > App limits > Manage limits (Use your ChatGPT plan in other apps).
