Sharing Chats
To share a ChatGPT conversation, open it, select Share and copy the link; anyone with a personal-account link can read it, links never expire, and you delete them in Settings > Data controls > Shared links.
To share a ChatGPT conversation, open it, select Share, review the preview, and select Create link or Copy link (Sharing conversations in ChatGPT). From a personal account, anyone who has the link can read the chat as it was when you made the link; it has no expiration date, and it stays live until you delete the link or the chat. Delete links at Settings > Data controls > Shared links > Manage.

How to share a ChatGPT conversation
- Open the conversation.
- Select Share (you can also share from the sidebar, or a single response where offered).
- Check the preview: everything shown will be visible to whoever gets the link.
- Select Create link, or Copy link if one exists.
- Paste the link wherever you like.
A link can carry the conversation, one assistant response, supported images or uploaded files, and anything personal you typed in the chat (Sharing conversations in ChatGPT). Sources from Memory that personalized an answer are not included in shared links (Memory in ChatGPT).
What the reader sees
On a personal account the link is a snapshot: messages you add afterward do not appear unless you select Update link. On Business, Enterprise, Edu and ChatGPT for Healthcare workspaces it works the other way: only signed-in members of the same workspace can open it, and it can include messages added later (Sharing conversations in ChatGPT).
Links are anonymous by default, though OpenAI warns that "some existing or older sharing experiences may display the creator's name", so check the preview. A reader who continues your conversation gets a private copy in their own account; your chat does not change. There is no per-person access list: anyone can forward the link (Sharing conversations in ChatGPT).
How to delete a shared link
- One link: Settings > Data controls > Shared links > Manage, then Delete shared link beside it.
- All links: the same page, More actions > Delete all shared links.
- Delete the chat: deleting a conversation also removes its shared link (Sharing conversations in ChatGPT).
- Delete your account: removes all your shared links.
Deleting a link "stops future access to that link", but it cannot recall copies or screenshots people already took (Sharing conversations in ChatGPT). If the chat had a scheduled task, deleting the chat pauses the task, but the task's own link stays live until you delete it separately. Locking a chat does not remove its link either.
Can Google find ChatGPT shared links?
For a short time in 2025 it could. A shared link could be made discoverable by search engines with an extra option when it was created, and on Jul 31, 2025 TechCrunch reported that a Google search limited to chatgpt.com/share turned up strangers' conversations (TechCrunch, Jul 31, 2025). OpenAI removed the option within hours, calling it "a short-lived experiment" that gave people too many ways to share things by accident (the same article's update that day).
As of Nov 6, 2026, OpenAI says shared link pages "are not intended for search-engine indexing, but this does not make a link private" (Sharing conversations in ChatGPT). The help article describes no discoverable option. Treat any shared link as public: if it is posted somewhere that is crawled, it can spread.
History
Shared links arrived in alpha on May 24, 2023. Sharing from Canvas followed on Feb 6, 2025, and faster one-click sharing on the web on Feb 27 and Jun 18, 2026 (ChatGPT release notes). Since Aug 20, 2026 Codex chat snapshots can be shared by link as well, and since Sep 29, 2026 you can make a ChatGPT profile public, which shows your Sites but no conversation titles or content (Shareable profiles).
Frequently asked questions
Can anyone see my ChatGPT shared link? Anyone who has the link can read a chat shared from a personal ChatGPT account; workspace links open only for members of the same workspace.
Do ChatGPT shared links expire? No. ChatGPT shared links have no expiration date; access ends only when you delete the link, the chat or your account.
Does a ChatGPT shared link update with new messages? Not on a personal account: the link is a snapshot until you select Update link. Workspace links can include later messages.
How do I delete all my ChatGPT shared links? Go to Settings > Data controls > Shared links > Manage, then More actions > Delete all shared links.
Does sharing a ChatGPT chat show my name? Shared links are anonymous by default, but some older sharing experiences may show the creator's name, so check the preview before sending.
Are ChatGPT shared chats on Google? OpenAI removed the option to make links discoverable by search engines on Jul 31, 2025, and says links are not intended for indexing; a link posted publicly can still be found and read by anyone.
