Finances in ChatGPT

Finances in ChatGPT links US bank and investment accounts through Plaid, and a credit report through Experian, so ChatGPT can explain spending, bills, net worth and your credit score; it is on every personal plan in the US since Oct 2, 2026, and it cannot move money, pay bills or trade.

To use Finances in ChatGPT, open Finances, select Get started and Connect with Plaid, and sign in to your bank; ChatGPT then shows a dashboard of spending, bills and net worth and answers questions about your money (OpenAI Help Center, read Nov 6, 2026). It is US-only and on Free, Go, Plus and Pro, on the web, iOS and Android, as of Nov 6, 2026. A credit score from Experian can be added. Finances cannot move money, pay bills or make trades. It started on Pro on May 15, 2026, reached Plus on Jun 26 and Free and Go on Oct 2, 2026.

How do you connect a bank account to ChatGPT?

Open Finances in ChatGPT and select Get started.
Choose Connect with Plaid, sign in to your bank or brokerage, and return to ChatGPT (OpenAI Help Center).
Wait for the sync: usually a few minutes, sometimes several hours.
Ask questions on the Finances page, or type /finances or @finances in any chat.

Connecting a financial account may also create a "Weekly finances update" scheduled task, which can be paused or deleted (OpenAI Help Center).

What can ChatGPT do with your finances?

Once there is enough data, the dashboard shows spending by category, spending this month, upcoming payments, subscriptions, bills, net worth, portfolio mix, a market update and your credit score; Edit dashboard (the pencil) reorders or hides them (OpenAI Help Center). In chat, ChatGPT can explain spending, subscriptions, bills, net worth and daily stock or ETF moves, and help plan a budget, savings goals, paying down debt or a large purchase. It can help organize tax papers but does not file taxes.

0:01 ChatGPT Voice works in Finances too. In OpenAI's short demo, a user asks aloud for a summary of subscriptions and recurring payments and for similar charges to be flagged, and ChatGPT shows the recurring payments side by side and points out an overlapping pair of insurance bills.

It cannot move money, pay bills, change account settings, make trades, change retirement contributions, or open or close accounts. OpenAI calls the answers informational: ChatGPT is "not a fiduciary", an investment advisor, a broker-dealer, a tax preparer or a law firm (OpenAI Help Center).

Credit scores

Since Sep 21, 2026, a credit score from Experian can sit beside the bank data; the release note named Plus and Pro in the US, and the help article now lists Finances for all four personal plans. To add it, ask ChatGPT or use the option on the Finances page, then fill in Experian's own verification form: personal details and codes go only into that form, never into the chat (OpenAI Help Center).

The score is a VantageScore 3.0, from 300 to 850, based on the Experian report and updated monthly; checking it is a soft inquiry that does not lower the score. It may differ from what a lender sees, since lenders use other models, bureaus or dates. ChatGPT cannot file disputes, change a report or freeze credit: that is done with Experian.

Privacy

Finance chats follow the account's normal training setting at Settings > Data controls (OpenAI Help Center). That is a difference from Health, whose data is never used for training whatever the setting: for finances, turn off "Improve the model for everyone" to keep these chats out of training (Privacy and Data Controls). The Finances article does not mention ads.

ChatGPT may save financial memories (goals, debts, shared costs) to personalize later answers; view or delete them from the Finances page's ••• menu or in Settings. Temporary chats cannot see connected accounts and make no memories. Finances is unavailable in Lockdown Mode (OpenAI Help Center).

How do you disconnect and delete financial data?

Bank accounts: Settings > Apps > Finances, or from the Finances home page; single accounts from the Accounts tab.
Experian: disconnect at any time, separately from the banks.

OpenAI deletes synced data within 30 days, and Plaid deletes its related data within 30 days under its own policy. Conversations and financial memories stay until deleted separately; Plaid links made with other apps are not affected and are managed in Plaid Portal (OpenAI Help Center).
