Intelligent UI

Intelligent UI, launched with GPT-6 in ChatGPT on Oct 7, 2026, lets answers in the Chat tab include charts, maps, forms, buttons, calculators and small games you can use in place; it is on every plan, from Instant to Extra High reasoning, but not in the Pro reasoning option.

Intelligent UI is what lets a ChatGPT answer be something you use rather than only read: since Oct 7, 2026, answers in the Chat tab "combine text, visuals, and interactive elements ... such as calculators, bill splitters, and games". There is nothing to switch on: GPT-6 picks the layout for each question and keeps plain text when that serves best (OpenAI, Oct 7, 2026). It came to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise that day and to Free and Go the next, and works from Instant through Extra High reasoning, but "The Pro reasoning option continues to use GPT-6 Astra and doesn't support Intelligent UI" (release notes).

Where The Chat tab, on the web and mobile (OpenAI)
Models GPT-6: GPT-6 Sol on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise; GPT-6 Luna on Free and Go
Reasoning levels Instant through Extra High; not the Pro option
Turn on Automatic; OpenAI documents no off switch
Not in ChatGPT Work and Codex, whose models were unchanged by the release
Enterprise Depends on the workspace admin's settings

What does Intelligent UI look like?

OpenAI's examples fall into three groups (OpenAI, Oct 7, 2026):

  • Everyday answers: a side-by-side comparison, a Sunday roast plan beside its recipe, road-trip stops on a map with notes.
  • Learning: interactive diagrams, explorations of how something works, step-by-step problem solving.
  • Tools on request: a savings growth calculator, a dinner bill splitter, a game played in the chat.

The building blocks named are graphics, tappable buttons, forms and charts. You change an input and the result updates, or you ask ChatGPT outright to build a tool for a job. Behind it, OpenAI says, is a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that draws the interface while the model is still writing.

How do you use it?

  1. Choose GPT-6 in the Chat tab at any level from Instant to Extra High (not Pro).
  2. Ask as usual. For a tool, say so: "make a calculator for splitting rent by room size".
  3. Use the controls in the answer, or ask ChatGPT to change them.

GPT-6 can also "begin answering while it continues to think or use tools" (release notes, Oct 7, 2026), so parts of an interactive answer may appear before the rest.

Which plans get it?

Plan Model behind Intelligent UI
Free GPT-6 Luna
Go GPT-6 Luna
Plus GPT-6 Sol
Pro GPT-6 Sol (not the Pro reasoning option, which uses GPT-6 Astra)
Business, Enterprise GPT-6 Sol

OpenAI's pages do not agree about Free and Go: the Oct 7 release note and the pricing page say GPT-6 Luna, while help articles updated around Nov 1, 2026 still name GPT-5.6 Luna as the Free model (ChatGPT Models has the details). The pricing page also lists "Interactive tables and charts" as a Plus and Pro feature (ChatGPT pricing, read Nov 6, 2026), so the richest charts may still depend on the plan.

How it grew

Intelligent UI is the latest of several steps away from plain text in ChatGPT:

Date Step
Jan 30, 2026 More visual answers, with tappable highlights of people, places and products
Feb 19, 2026 Interactive code blocks: edit inline, preview diagrams and mini apps
May 28, 2026 Canvas left current models; writing and code blocks took over
Jun 8, 2026 Interactive bar, line, pie and scatter charts; full-screen writing blocks
Oct 7, 2026 Intelligent UI with GPT-6

For longer work that people edit together, OpenAI's answer is Pages and Slides in ChatGPT Space rather than chat answers; see also Canvas and Data Analysis.

Limits

OpenAI admits the feature is young: its design judgment "still needs improvement", and the range of what the model can build will grow (OpenAI). No page read on Nov 6, 2026 explains how to turn Intelligent UI off; asking for a plain text answer in the prompt is the practical way.

Frequently asked questions

What is Intelligent UI in ChatGPT? It is GPT-6's ability, since Oct 7, 2026, to answer in the Chat tab with interactive pieces such as charts, maps, forms, buttons, calculators and games, alongside text.

Is Intelligent UI free? Yes. Free and Go got it from Oct 8, 2026 with GPT-6 Luna; paid plans use GPT-6 Sol.

Why don't I see interactive answers with GPT-6 Pro? The Pro reasoning option runs on GPT-6 Astra and does not support Intelligent UI. Pick Instant through Extra High instead.

Can I turn off Intelligent UI? OpenAI documents no switch for it. GPT-6 uses plain text when that suits the question, and you can ask for a text-only answer.

Does Intelligent UI work in ChatGPT Work? No. It is a Chat tab feature; Work and Codex use separate models.
